Age Differences In Birth Order

August 17, 2005 / by birthorder

A large age gap can affect Birth Order. If there are more than five years between the first and second child they will be Only Children in personality. The second child can become a First Born if there is another child born within five years.

If there is a gap of at least five years between all the siblings they are all Onlies. However, a pseudo birth order pattern develops. With Only Children the second one does not want to be like the first so the second one appears very different from the first one. A third child would appear quite different from the first two. What looks like Birth Order personalities is actually superficial differences. Underneath they all have the same personality.

Once there are a First and Second Born there can be up to 14 years between the second and third to still get a Third Born. There can be up to 10 years between third and fourth child to still develop a Fourth Born personality in the fourth born.
