The best reason for studying your Birth Order is to enable you to overcome it. Birth Order is a set of coping strategies developed at home in childhood. These strategies enabled you to cope with your siblings (or lack of them), your parents and with the family situation. When you got old enough you were able to learn to cope with the world through interaction with your peers. If you did not have a good experience with peers you may try to cope with the world through your Birth Order strategies.
Your Birth Order behavior is not apparent to you until someone describes it. Once you know it you can begin to get beyond it. Knowing yourself is like seeing your face. You have to look in a mirror. The mirror for your personality is your peer group.
Even if you function well in the world your Birth Order comes out at home. Your spouse and children experience your Birth Order as no one else does. You are literally a different person at home than you are away from home. Knowing your Birth Order has the greatest benefit on what happens at home.
